Memorable Memorial Mashup

Memorial weekend set records for vegas clubs, i was out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and visited Jet, the Rock bar in THE Imperial Palace, REVOLUTION, and of course PURE.

I mentioned earlier that i had purchased sound forge, most importantly for the newly included SONY NOISE REDUCTION plug ins. What a great move by Sony, i urge you to grab a free demo, and try out peak restoration of some of your own material.

I am putting together a dance mix, mostly for public appearances, but in transferring key songs, came across a very pure Muscle Shoals Aretha Franklin song called "You're All I Need to get by." Applying Sony peak restoration seemed to do little for the song on my computer speakers, but on a whim, i included it with a CD of my dance mix, when i listened to it on better systems, the improvements just jumped out at me.  Sparkling violins, Aretha's bell tones clear as a.

Maybe everything is just sounding better these days: Saturday's pussycat dolls show had lost the tubby bass that had been distracting me from the show.

All three nights I saw big VIP crowds waiting to get in. (When in Vegas, remember that Mr. Franklin is always on the list. Don't waste time pushing to the front, just grease one of the suits on the perimeter, and you will slide to the front.)

A few screamers greeted some of my entrances... I missed out on being a Beatle, (the closest i ever was to them was when i rescued Linda McCartney's little sister from a stairway.|) but once in a while i am getting adoring screams from some of the ladies.  Many of them have only seen me in photos, there must be thousands of them out there by now, and come over to take even more pictures.  Others remember me from Vegas Visits many years ago.

Dancing was somewhat limited in the main room at PURE due to the constant stream of celebrities on the VIP stage booths. Celebs generate thronging on the floor, with all space being quickly consumed.

Large late night (3 AM) street/sidewalk crowds. Seeking entertainment on the strip. Sadly, most sidewalk accessable venues shut down at 3 or 4, although most of the ppl walking around were not up to dress code for the clubs.

INTEROP best trade show this year.

According to everyone i interviewed, Interop delivered very high quality traffic to the booths.

From the aislewalker's perspective, it's fun to see companies you bought products from 40 years ago, and talk to people you bought products from 10 years ago. ADC comes to mind, they have supplied jackfields to the A/V industry since before i built my first studio (ca 1963), and once were a primary supplier of electromechanical relays.

Although most switching these days is accomplished in solid state devices, their expertise in high reliability switch contacts has given them key status in patch fields. A big competitive advantage of ADC is their clear understanding of their mission, which is to help customers wire their stuff together.

My agenda: learn what's new, spread the idea of 700 MHz as a free public band like wi-fi, but with very tight part 15 regulations requiring safety providers packets are prioritized.

The amount of money made by the government in the "free" spectrum (through income taxes on providers, and sales taxes on the hardware) is more than the sum of all spectrum auctions since they started.

The amount of money made by radio manufacturers who entered the WI-FI space made them very receptive to the FREE 700 MHz idea. In beltway-speak: They drank the kool-aid on the first sniff. Some of these manufacturers are also in the public safety marketplace, the the idea of a consumer purchased radio that can extend coverage and in crease bandwidth by becoming integrated with the public safety mesh really lit up those little light bulbs over their heads. And i think i heard some marketing guys makinig cha-ching sounds as i left the booth.

A college professor told me about his realtime cascade distribution system for live video broadcasts using single stream upstream bandwidth and propagation software at each end user to deliver live content. Cool. I told him about my gps based routing idea and he got it right away.

The Interop show, perhaps because of its smaller size, had all the vendors in a vertical (business IT integration) marketplace.

SPRINT is now EMBARQ new improved and twice as greedy.

just when you think you have seen the worst of greedy phone company behavior, up steps EMBARQ to the plate with a most evil plot i have seen in a while.

some months i had called the newly renamed sprint in an attempt to lower my bill. I had 4 800 numbers, with a minimum attainment of $50 a month. I cancelled 2 of the numbers. They re-wrote the account with an attainmnet of $100. My service was halved, and the bill was doubled. Oh the joy in the corporate offices as all the brand new minimums start kicking in.

i hope this is the computer's fault. or at least human error, not some newbie bean counter trying to get noticed.

Sadly, in my interactions with a recient outage, my tourettes kicked in and my Marine Corps training. (cussing demonstrates authority) is the only arrow in my quiver.

Acid Flashback

A few days ago, I downloaded an upgrade for Sony Acid, and purchased Sound Forge. 

The Sony Noise Reduction 2 plug-in kit was included inside the Sound Forge distribution.  It includes a click and pop filter that I have found useful to remove microphone banging from camcorder tapes.

I fell into one of my creative thralls, and find myself with the beginnings of a dance mix, and my CD collection re-sorted.

If you have not tried Acid music creation software, may i humbly suggest you download a free trial. Sony Vegas, the video editing application, is actually evolved from Acid; the paradigm of a horizontal timeline with multiple tracks probably evolved from music scores. Music loops, for example a drum track, one-shot sounds, and entire songs are drawn onto the timeline, where they can be mixed and mashed as desired.

What got me started on this was listening to Bach's A Minor organ work (BWV 961) and hearing 20 or 30 dance themes. 

An unexpected offshoot of this, i was not energized by the music when i walked into the club last night. I fear i burned my self out on songs... Although i keep some super dance mix CD's loaded in the Zekemobile, i rarely listen to music in the house, listening instead to a background jibber-jabber from the TV even when sleeping.

Cinco de Margaritas

It was a mad convergance, Cinco, The Fight, Kentucky Derby, Her Majesty, Jessica Simpson, PussyCat Dolls anniversary...

I have learned to stay indoors on New Year's Eve, but according to management, PURE had a bigger turnout than even then.  When i arrived early Friday evening (the 4th) the line was past the casino entrance. Saturday I arrived well past Midnight, and there was still a crowd at the VIP entrance.

Friday's Big event was the Las Vegas PussyCat Dolls second anniversary.  Jessica Simpson was the host for the show, and the overflow crowd in the lounge loved every minute. As a finale' Robin Antin, the creator and the choreographer of the Dolls came on stage and received an enthusiastic round of applause.

What a thrill for me to see such a creative genius! Later, the celebration moved to the VIP stage in the main room, more celebrity surprises, including Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria.

NAB 2007: 64 bit code for SONY VEGAS, 8-K

Sony and AMD chose the Vegas Users Group Party to jointly announce a 64 bit VEGAS build. And a lucky attendee, in addition to  GREAT finger food, took home an AMD powered HD workstation.

As i chug along on a 2.6 Pentium, users are talking about live show multi screen programming on vegas-driven platforms.

The other big thrill was watching a 7680 x 4320 60p projection. Close. Very Close.

Every square foot of the 200 inch (diagonal, 207 in canada) screen looked like a magazine cover.  Footage was typical gee here's a great new technology, with surfing, parawing, whales, etc. in National Geographic quality.

What made the crowd (of tv station wonks) gasp was the wide shot of a football game. The camera was situated at the back of the 50 yard line stands, the image included fans across the field, fans on the near side, and fans behind each goal. Complete rim to rim football action in a single shot. STUNNING (on my top 10 list of overused words.) 

I did a brisk walkthrough of the halls. The show is huge, even though the number of exhibitors is small, many of the booths are huge because they are selling such high priced items that booth rent at the convention center is a rounding error. There are towns in Arizona smaller than the SONY booth.

Jet Ball -- Pure Perfection

I have been going very late in the morning to JET. Even though i park in North Valet of the MIRAGE, which is just 25 ft away from the main entrance, i am always so focused on seeing Cindi, of the Las Vegas Pussycat Dolls, that i walk right by.

Last week, i did manage to get back to JET before closing and was amazed by the new Light Show in the "old school" room.

The centerpiece is a traditional disco-mirror-ball, but instead of one spotlight hitting it, every light in the room can be programmed to hit it at once.

WOW!!! What a spectacular display. I thought i had seen everything, but the JET lighting effects continue to blow me away.

And  PURE has continued to enthrall me. In addition to seeing Cindi's great performance, the hot ladies on the dance floor and in the VIP booths give me so much love and energy. Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler was celebrating her 32 birthday last Saturday up on the VIP stage. In fact, in the same booth where Kevin celebrated last month.

It is interesting how she stood out from the usual crowd of hot celebrity girlfriends. She was dressed much more conservatively than them, and projected a mature confidence that I found very appealing. She is what Paris Hilton can grow into.

In the crowd that same night, one of my biggest fans with her girlfriend from Australia. She told me, "you are a legend in my country." I had heard i was big in Russia, but always thought my almost-fame in the USA is mostly restricted to the Disco types from Vegas and  Hollywood.

Boy Toy Bonanza

For Spring Break, PURE Nightclub booked two of the country's top Babe Magnets back to back.

Brody Jenner hosted Friday Night's festivities. Poor zeke is not accustomed to being second hottest guy in the room, but Brody has it all. In the looks department he gets his father's athletic body topped by dads rugged face, softened just slightly by his actress mom.

Jenner was a great host. He spent lots of time down on the dance floor, mingling with us masses. He posed with everyone for a picture or two, and he and I danced with the same ladies.

When i am dancing at PURE, i direct a lot of attention toward the main VIP stage. Mostly this is because there are generally EXTREMELY hot ladies there, and they always delight in seeing my moves. In this case, i was just dancing with a cluster of beautiful Spring Break ladies when suddenly i was getting Invited. Capital Invited.

I pose for pics with celebs on the dance floor all the time, but crowd control is a big issue in the VIP area, as one of the owners told me once "I can't get my own Mother up there." Generally, I politely refuse invitations, especially from the stage, but they kept insisting, and eventually a VIP host came out and led me to the booth.  Kevin was mostly in the back, doing interviews and other rockstar stuff, i hung mostly with his brother, drinking a RED BULL. Eventually i posed with kfed for a handful of photos, then danced on the front of the stage for a little while. I hated the separation between my self and all those spring break hotties on the dance floor, so i snuck out and back to the mob.

Migration on the Strip

Early this morning, as i walked out of Caesars Palace i saw, for the second time, a flock of birds flying North for the Summer by way of the Strip.

Last week, on Tuesday, two distinct flocks wheeling about, in and out, the Xenon beam from the great pyramid creating flashes of brilliant bird pave' in the Sodium Sky.  Brilliant Birds, majestic as they swirled and whirled to the PURE House soundtrack.

Curse my laziness for leaving the camera in my pocket.

Spring Forward

This morning, walked in the back yard, observed the buds of the fig tree, unfurling solar collection equipment of amazingly complex design, wasting only the green portion of the spectrum, delighting my eyes with their rod activation.

Then i turned  my face directly to the sun, eyes shut, the wider photons dancing through the ;ids, forming mandillas of revealed wiring in my visual areas. Instinctively i put my palms together, elbows wide, forming an antenna for the Cosmic Data Space. 

I have come to use this on the dance floor, and found it very powerful, no wonder we see this pose so frequently in art from almost every culture.  The Ladies find it attractive, and echo it to me even more frequently than my signature move, "The Happy Sperm" where one hand is slid up and down and wiggled side to side at the same time. Obviously THS is a very male move, the girls love to see the move, but rarely do it much at all. A few guys are learning it, and apparently getting good results.

Of course the real secret of success on the dance floor is not to grab all those beautiful glutes... At least not till they beg you to.. *laugh*

Adult Pages Pumping Pretty Pixels

Two years ago, i mortgaged my house, bought a bunch of HD video equipment, and went into the Adult Movie Business.

The site slowly built up a following, and then the record keeping rules changed, and at the same time, i discovered pay per click advertising, and shut off most of the site. Now, after a two year hiatus, i am reactivating the site.

Its not intended to be JUST a porn site, but rather a forum for artists and writers creating content for grownups.

Don't Drink and sleep.

Yesterday morning, a man almost died in front of my house. Apparently he had been consuming excessive alcohol, and fallen asleep at the bus stop.  Somehow in his sleep he rolled off the bench and onto the street. After calling 911, i took a blanket out, he was non-responsive, his eyes open, fixed, and glazed.

Upon warming he seemed to thaw out, by the time the ambulance arrived he was responsive and moving about.

Interrupted the THREADLINE thread to finish an ADULTS ONLY version of the Zeke-O-Vision background. Which entailed making a 30:second demo movie.  The Adult version of the background features the words "Adult Content" and a DIGIMARC watermark that alerts parental control filtering software.

My morning read of LED DIGEST opines that a short movie indeed replaces a thousand words of even the best copy.  The zeke-O-vision Internet Tuner can be added to any website by pasting a few lines of code. I have avoided flash in the past because of the wait for downloads, and pondering a solution. Because the player is pure HTML, none of the movie downloads until the play button is pressed.

One of my customers, a TV personality, has a segment from her latest show on her website.  She tells me it has saved her a lot of trouble and expense mailing out physical media.

Everyone is CBS.

If the Democrats can protect the FLAT INTERNET, everyone of us can be CBS, or NBC, or whatever.

The "Video Revolution" of the 60's (most of which took place in the 70's) put the tools of television creation in the hands of the artist. But the tools of distribution, the Cable Television outlet, were privately owned, and an important political battle was fought over "Public Access" a free channel, where anyone could get their tapes played over low number channels like 3 or 6 on their local cable network.

Today, as telcos enter the world of entertainment content, this public openness is reflected in what is popularly called NET NEUTRALITY.

The carriers position is about not being able to build out capacity for the bandwidth explosion without being paid by the content owners. The incumbent content delivery companies, the cable operators, should be overjoyed to be getting free content. After all, their legacy business model is to pay for channels.

Back on the strip. Revolution.

Woke up well before midnight, and found an E-Mail from tech support for V2F, a fantastic little utility to make .swf files from video.  My copy had broken due to a VISTA migration on this computer. Got the upgrade installed, and gave it a quick test before going out.

First stop REVOLUTION. The place was packed. In addition to the cool entrance, this sparkling new club has LOCATION, LOCATION, and of course the critically important LOCATION. If you are staying at the MIRAGE hotel, you can party there till you are ready for sleep, and then just cross the hallway to the elevator banks to your room.

A fairly short set at revolution, I was anxious to get to PURE, but I wanted to make sure the motor circuits were still properly wired to the auditory input. then walked, outdoors, to PURE. It's great to have the milder nighttime temperatures.

It must have been 3 when i got to PURE, yet there was still a line outside.  I swear they are making women more beautiful all the time.  The spectacular strip view from the outdoor patio was enhanced by the ability to enjoy it without risk of frostbite. I moved to the Southwest to be WARM, freezing winter nights are not my thing.

Great to see all the familiar faces of the PURE staff, and, as I can never tell you enough, ALL YOU BEAUTIFUL LADIES!!!
