1959 Dropped out of HURON HIGH SCHOOL, after taking extra credits each
year in order to graduate in three years. Stupid Bean Counters! This cost me a full ride to
TULANE which had been offered as a result of being in the 99th percentile in the US
National Merit Scholarship Test. I shoulda sued them, but if i had taken the scholarship,
i would have graduated just in time to get killed in Viet Nam. And i loved my teachers,
all straight out of Mayberry, This was the 50's and you became a teacher because you
felt a calling, not because it paid good and there is a strong union. Mr. Green, who
coached Billy Joe Armstrong and other Northern Ohio Farm Boys to undefeated
seasons, also taught chemestry, and traded me access to a FULLY
EQUIPPED DARKROOM for reading the book, doing the homework, and taking
the tests, he also chose two other students a male and a female to go in the darkroom
with me and learn Photo Enlarging. A Super Hot (but dykey, somehow) English
Literature teacher that would draw pictures of sheep on the blackboard, and
warn us not to be like them. God, i hope the HUAC never got ahold of her!
